Remembering The Heroes Of 26/11

26th Nov, 2008 witnessed one of the darkest days in Mumbai, that shook the entire country. Ceaseless shooting and bombing attacks took place across Mumbai by members of Lashkar-e-Taiba, killing hundreds and injuring many others. These attacks took place at 8 places in Mumbai(South Mumbai), starting from CST station, The Oberoi Trident, The Taj Mahal Palace, Cama Hospital, Nariman House Jewis Community Centre, the Metro Cinema, a lane behind Times Of India building and St. Xavier’s College. A bomb explosion also occured at Mazgaon and a taxi at Vile Parle.

Several brave men and women came in to save the hostages at different locations. Army and AirForce played a crucial part in saving the captives. They were 10 terrorists and it was no simple task to capture them. However, police inspectors, commandos, firemen and many more stepped into the firing line to save others when terror struck Mumbai.

Out of all the saviours, some died, some survived and others forgotten.Those who stood out because of their noteworthy performance were Shri. Hemant Karkare, Shri. Ashok Kamte, Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan, Shri. Vijay Salaskar, Shri. Shashank Shinde, Shri Bapusaheb Durugade, Shri. Tukaram G. Ombale and Shri. Prakash P. More.

Constable Tukaram Ombale, who got into the police car hijacked by Ajmal Kasab and his fellow terrorist Ismail, was unarmed. He lost his life while holding onto Kasab until others could arrest him. Kasab got arrested but at the cost of Ombale’s death.

Mohammed Ajmal Amir Kasab was the only link connecting to the attacks, held by the police. After 4 years of thorough interrogation, on 21 November, 2012, Ajmal Kasab, the sole surviving Pakistani terrorist was hanged to death at Pune’s Yerawada central prison.

On the first anniversary of the attacks, state paid homage to the victims of the attacks.

Kasab has been hanged, the other 9 were killed, but has JUSTICE been served when the actual perpetuators of the attack are still safe in Pakistan?

I am a Bihari and believe me, I am damn proud to be one. Though circumstance and my weak heart made me not marry a Bihari, but I can surely list down reasons why a Biharican sweep you off the floor. Not generalizing it, but most of the Biharis are brainy people, despite the image that predominates in everyone’s minds that they are illiterate. If not all, most of them consciously or sub-consciously appear for the UPSC exam. So essentially, if you lay your hand on the right Bihari, then your future is more or less secure. And if you somehow don’t end up finding the brainy one, there is the hardworking lot who sweat out to make a position for themselves.

No matter how awkward the name Litti Chokha might sound to you, it is a dish that Biharisget pretty emotional about and on the mere mention of it starts a series of stories of how and when this dish is made. Other than this they thoroughly relish sattu, be it in form of food or as a drink. So, basically you would be exposed to an exquisite range of cuisines if you marry a Bihari and I don’t doubt you would like it if not love it.

3. Jiya Ho Bihar Ke Lala

Biharis sing all the time, be it when they are singing (which is obvious) but also while talking. Their accent is so unique that though Biharis earlier used to shy away from sounding Bihari, now it is a ‘Cool’ thing. I must say ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’ has made it ‘IN’ to talk in that accent which earlier was looked up with an unusual expression. So, not only will you thoroughly enjoy a unique language but also the accent will make you sing and dance on the ‘O Womaniya’ number with grace.

2. Bhaiya Chhath Hai Aaj

How they love Chhath, is not hidden from the nation. It becomes nationwide news when the festival of Chhath comes. Every Bihari celebrates this day with grandeur and pomp. All trains to Bihar are jam-packed with people rushing to participate in the celebration. You can enjoy a different culture and the grandness of the minutest things.

1. Hum Keh Rahe Hain

They are great orators. Even the lamest of the lame person can willingly or unwillingly participate in a debate and make you puzzled as to how they ended up talking about it. So, don’t worry when it will come to convincing your parents for marrying a Bihari, the task will be easily and smoothly tackled. But before that your Bihari counterpart will need to get a 10/10 from you to move forward.

Missed calls to girls to invite action in Bihar

The Bihar police is determined to act tough against habitual offenders who give missed calls to girls.

Should anyone do that, it would be enough to book you under the law as would be, if you are following any girl or woman.

Besides, anybody found to have installed hidden cameras in hotel rooms, bathrooms, trial rooms in shops or any place, which could affect people's right to privacy, would also have to face the music.

SP (weaker section), CID, Harpreet Kaur said this on the conclusion of the two-day workshop on ''women''s empowerment'' organised in the chamber of IG (CID) Arvind Pandey.

All woman station house officers (SHOs) of Bihar were present at the workshop, which was addressed by the IG also.

Pandey said, around 65 workshops have been so far organised in different schools and colleges to tell the girls about the necessary precautions they should take while travelling, using mobile phones or social networking sites or while at public places.

Pandey said girls have also been apprised of the adverse impact of elopement and how one wrong decision could make their life miserable.

"It is a fact that mostly minors come under such influence and so we have been focusing on them to make them aware, as well as strong," he added.

All the SHOs have been asked to visit schools and colleges in their respective areas, while Kaur has been asked to take the lead in making it a campaign in Patna.
